Reintroduced in 1981 with the M81 Battle Dress Uniform, and still worn with the Army Combat Uniform (since 2004), the patrol cap is made from a 50% cotton, 50% nylon blend. Variants include hot weather models without ear flaps. It is often modified with a "Ranger Roll," where the sides are rolled down, though this practice is not officially sanctioned.
